Job summary

Commonwealth of Virginia’s Department of Corrections seeks a Corrections Lieutenant: Baskerville Correctional Center #04058. This Security Manager I role oversees daily operations of security staff to maintain safety and order within an institutional setting.

Responsibilities include supervising shifts, coordinating duty rosters, and guiding staff performance. Requires high school diploma, CJCS certification, valid driver's license, and experience in corrections or law enforcement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Department of Criminal Justice Services Certification required.
• Considerable experience in corrections or law enforcement.
• Experience supervising corrections staff.
• Experience planning, scheduling, and/or organizing work including timekeeping and duty rosters.
• Experience reviewing and evaluating records and applying post orders.
• Knowledge of security and/or administration practices and procedures.
• Ability to understand and communicate oral and written instructions.
• Working knowledge of firearms, radio equipment, and control devices.

Responsibilities

• Manages daily activities of Security Supervisors, Corrections Officers, and Inmates.
• Supervises and monitors staff on assigned shift to ensure safety and security.
• Leads and counsels staff; coordinates shift schedules and duty rosters.
• Contributes to performance management administration.
• Conducts inspections to maintain safety, sanitation, and order.
• Interacts with management, staff, visitors, inmates, and the public to maintain orderly operations.
