Job summary

Brookhaven National Laboratory seeks a dynamic Section Head, Accelerator R&D to provide scientific and administrative leadership for the Accelerator R&D Section within the FIP Directorate. You will supervise Group Leaders in Accelerator Physics, Beam Cooling, and Polarimetry, set priorities, and plan staffing and resources to advance EIC and accelerator programs.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Accelerator Physics, Physics, Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in accelerator science/engineering, including at least 6 years in leadership/management.
Experience leading multidisciplinary scientific teams and guiding complex accelerator projects.
Expertise in beam physics, beam cooling, beam dynamics, beam instrumentation, polarimetry, or accelerator systems.
Ability to manage scientific programs, personnel, and resources; strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

Establish strategic vision and structure for the Accelerator R&D Section.
Provide direct supervision of the Accelerator Physics, Beam Cooling, and Polarimetry Group Leaders.
Recruit, mentor, develop, and evaluate scientific staff.
Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing culture; promote operational excellence.
Lead scientific and technical efforts for beam physics and EIC-related projects.
Coordinate Section activities with EIC System Managers and project engineers.
