Job summary

Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, NY, seeks a Section Head for the EIC Development Section to provide scientific and technical leadership for the Electron-Ion Collider project. You will oversee Collider and Electron Injector Groups, align priorities with the Accelerator Division, and drive performance, safety, and collaboration.

The role requires a Ph.D. in a related field, 10+ years in accelerator science with management experience, and a proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Accelerator Physics, Physics, Engineering, or closely related discipline.
• At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in accelerator science, including 6 years of leadership/management.
• Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary scientific and technical teams.
• Expertise in hadron/electron storage rings, IR, rapid cycling synchrotron, electron injectors or accelerator systems.
• Experience supporting design, commissioning, operation, or upgrade of complex accelerator facilities.
• Demonstrated ability to manage scientific and technical programs, personnel, and resources.
• Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Establish strategic vision, organizational structure, workforce plans, and management systems for the EIC Development Section.
• Provide direct line supervision of group leaders and prioritize staffing and resources.
• Recruit, mentor, develop, and evaluate staff; foster an inclusive, high-performing culture.
• Provide scientific and technical leadership for accelerator physics and systems supporting the EIC Project.
• Coordinate activities with project engineers, operations, and other technical organizations.
• Ensure effective planning, readiness reviews, and change control for Section work.
• Foster collaborations across Brookhaven Lab and with DOE and international partners.
