Job summary

Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) seeks a Community Associate to support Section 8 voucher processes and tenant-resource programs. The role focuses on expediting voucher applications, case management, and customer service for applicants and landlords across NYC.

The position requires handling caseloads, screening eligibility, and ensuring compliance with HUD rules, with opportunities to participate in outreach events and trainings.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or related duties.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of assisted or applicant households.
• Initial voucher application screening.
• Determination and verification of eligibility.
• Client briefings (internal and external meetings).
• May perform community outreach to assist Section 8 participation.
• Prepare and send appropriate correspondence; track responses.
• Document case files and electronic records; file preparation.
• Rent calculations.
• Review yearly recertifications of household composition and income/assets.
• Demonstrate ability to manage multiple cases while prioritizing processing.
• Attend mandatory trainings.
