Job summary

RTX is seeking an experienced Optical Design Engineer to design, analyze and deliver precision EO/IR and high-energy laser capabilities for airborne and ground-based systems. You will create optical drawings, model tolerances, and work with vendors to source components.

In this on-site role in McKinney, TX, you will perform alignments, support testing, and contribute to engineering analyses. A US citizenship and active DoD clearance are required, with relocation assistance available.

Qualifications

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) required.
• Minimum 8 years of prior relevant experience or 5+ years with an advanced degree.
• Experience with optical design and analysis software (CodeV, Zemax, TracePro).
• Experience with optical alignment, testing, manufacturing methods, and cleanroom environments.
• Experience with EO/IR/laser system integration and laser characterization.

Responsibilities

• Design, test, and deliver EO/IR and High Energy Laser system capabilities.
• Develop optical drawings and collaborate with vendors for components.
• Perform opto-mechanical alignments and tolerance analyses.
• Manage small to moderate projects including planning and documentation.
