Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools seeks an instructional assistant to support teachers and students in meeting classroom standards. You will assist in instruction, prepare materials, monitor behavior, and help maintain a safe learning environment, while coordinating with staff and parents.

You will work with teachers to reinforce skills, operate instructional equipment, and manage supplies, contributing to student attendance procedures and record keeping as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum: Associate's Degree or 2 years of higher education OR ability to pass a formal assessment (WorkKeys and 96 hours of in-service training), or NC DOL Apprenticeship or NC ATA PD.
• Desirable: Associate's Degree with an education concentration and more than 2 years of classroom experience.

Responsibilities

• Assists in instruction of individual students or groups in all curricular areas as directed by the teacher.
• Plans and works with teachers to devise strategies based on student needs, interests and abilities.
• Operates and cares for equipment and materials for instructional purposes in assigned classrooms.
• Monitors students in various settings to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
• Interacts with students, parents and colleagues to facilitate positive interactions.
• Collaborates with team members and shares ideas and strategies.
• Alerts teachers to problems or special information about students.
• Participates in in-service trainings for professional growth.
• Assists with school routines and transitions; checks materials and assists in supervising and assessing students.
