Job summary

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools seek an Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant to support special education students under supervision. You’ll assist the assigned teacher, reinforce learning, and help students achieve their IEP goals in collaboration with classroom staff.

Responsibilities include supervising students, preparing materials, monitoring progress, and assisting with daily routines and safety in and out of the classroom consistent with district policies.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or higher education equivalent required.
• Two years of higher education (48 credit hours) preferred.
• Ability to pass WorkKeys and complete in-service training.
• Completion of the NC Department of Labor Teacher Assistant Apprenticeship Program preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist children individually or in small groups to reinforce learning.
• Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums.
• Coordinate instructional efforts with the classroom teacher.
• Provide physical assistance and support materials and routines as needed.
• Participate in professional development and meetings.
