Job summary

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) seeks Highway Maintenance Worker positions for the Southwest Region in Bingen and Goldendale. These non-permanent roles involve outdoor work, night shifts, and emergency call-outs during the winter season.

Responsibilities include pavement and drainage work, sign/guardrail maintenance, and traffic control setup. Applicants must hold a Class A CDL with N endorsement and be prepared for 24/7 on-call duties.

Qualifications

• Highway maintenance knowledge including pavement repair, drainage, erosion control, and debris removal.
• Unrestricted Class A CDL with N endorsement to operate Washington state vehicles.
• Proficiency with highway maintenance equipment and safe transport between sites.
• Follows MUTCD for traffic control; able to plan safe work zones and obtain a Traffic Control/Flagging card within 6 months.
• Commitment to safety policies and PASP; able to complete safety training.
• Experience with electronic systems for timekeeping, maintenance tracking, and inventory.
• Ability to work in a team and independently; capable of leading a crew when needed.
• Growth mindset and service-oriented attitude toward colleagues and the public.

Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day highway maintenance including pavement repair, drainage, erosion control, and material application.
• Install and repair highway infrastructure such as signs, guardrails, fences, and landscaped areas.
• Haul materials, manage stockpile sites, and track inventory.
• Respond to accidents or emergencies; perform traffic control and coordinate responses with agencies.
• Plan and set up traffic control for closures and detours per MUTCD standards.
• Document daily work activities and maintain records; assist with safety planning.
