Job summary

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is hiring non‑permanent Highway Maintenance Workers for the Southwest Region in Bingen and Goldendale. The role focuses on winter maintenance, operating highway equipment, and performing maintenance and repairs to ensure safe travel.

Positions are outdoor, with four 10‑hour days, possible night shifts, weekends, and 24/7 callouts. CDL and safety training are essential; this is a seasonal, non‑permanent assignment in WA.

Qualifications

• Highway maintenance knowledge including pavement and drainage.
• Unrestricted Class A CDL with N endorsement.
• Experience operating highway maintenance equipment and vehicles.
• Knowledge of MUTCD and traffic control practices.
• Commitment to safety policies and PASP procedures.
• Proficiency with timekeeping, inventory, and cost estimates.
• Ability to work both in a team and independently in the field.
• Willingness to lead a crew in the absence of a supervisor.
• Demonstrates a growth mindset and service orientation.

Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day highway maintenance including pavement and drainage work.
• Install and repair signs, guardrails, and related infrastructure.
• Haul and place materials and manage stockpiles and inventory.
• Maintain roadways for safe open travel during winter conditions.
• Design traffic control for maintenance operations per MUTCD.
• Document daily work activities and inventories.
• Respond to accidents and coordinate with external agencies as needed.
