Job summary

County of Tulare in California is seeking extra help personnel to fill current and future vacancies within the Tulare County Fire Department across various locations. The positions are temporary with a six-month life for the employment list. Hours and duration vary by assignment, with no benefits for extra help staff.

Selected candidates may perform firefighting-related duties, operate equipment, and carry out heavy manual labor. Pre-employment screenings and background checks may apply.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
• Experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of this job; applicants must be at least 18 years old.
• Knowledge of basic maintenance principles, basic math concepts, applicable tools and safe work practices.
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds; operate office equipment; learn firefighting and emergency techniques.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a California driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Assist in firefighting functions in suppression of wildland fires and other emergencies.
• Operate and maintain a variety of equipment.
• Perform a variety of heavy manual labor related to maintenance, construction, clean up, and related tasks.
• Use a variety of hand and power tools.
• Engage in fire prevention activities including fuel breaks, roads, and trails.
