Job summary

Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group is seeking a Show Tech for the seasonal run in Houston. You will install, wire, and configure all show systems ahead of opening and test DMX lighting, LEDs, and controllers to achieve the creative effects.

You’ll perform nightly readiness checks, remain on-site during operational hours, diagnose and repair faults, and help with safety and teardown tasks to keep high-quality show presentation. Evening/weekend availability is required.

Qualifications

• Proven hands-on experience in electrical wiring, electronics, or a related technical field—live events, theater, or entertainment production preferred.
• Working knowledge of DMX lighting systems, addressable LEDs, and programming tools such as Light-O-Rama, QLab, or xLights
• Experience building, configuring, or troubleshooting PLC systems for automated or interactive applications
• Familiarity with pneumatic systems, animatronic mechanics, and motion-based prop operation
• Experience with prop and fright controllers (e.g., Fright Ideas) and control systems
• Basic carpentry and scenic repair skills to support show maintenance
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving instincts; calm under pressure during shows
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work in dark, confined environments
• Evenings, weekends, and extended hours during the season
• Must be 18 years or older

Responsibilities

• Show Prep & Installation: Install, wire, and configure all electronic show systems including lighting, sound, animatronics, and controllers.
• Nightly Show Readiness: Pre-show testing, on-site availability, and prompt repair of failures.
• Troubleshooting & Repairs: Serve as the technical resource for electrical, mechanical, and control issues.
• Safety & Teardown: Enforce safety standards and document recurring issues for repairs.
