Job summary

Oregon Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Maintenance Specialist 2 for the Ukiah, Oregon area. The seasonal role involves operating heavy and light equipment to maintain roadways, assist with weather-related emergencies, perform minor repairs, and manage vegetation along rights of way.

Candidates should have 2 years of related experience or 1 year in highway maintenance, with a valid CDL-A or ability to obtain a CDL-A within 60 days.

Qualifications

• Two years of general landscaping, maintenance, mechanical, farming, logging, and/or construction experience or training.
• One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance work.
• Employee will be required to use a commercial motor vehicle to conduct business.
• A current, valid commercial driver’s license A (CDL-A) is preferred.
• Winter maintenance experience such as sanding, deicing or using snow blowers or snowplows.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of heavy and light equipment and tools to maintain and repair roadways, bridges and structures.
• Assist with weather related emergencies and operate snowplows, deicer trucks and other equipment.
• Perform minor surface repairs including pothole and concrete patching and small inlay work.
• Clear debris, brush, mow grass and spray roadside vegetation.
• Maintain drainage systems, dig and clean ditches and repair culverts and erosion.
• Maintain and repair fences, guardrails, concrete barriers and milepost markers.
