JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: The Seasonal Equipment Operator I/CDL Driver is an entry-level position in the Equipment Operator series. The role involves performing unskilled and semi-skilled duties in operating vehicles and equipment used in construction, maintenance, and repair of county roads and right-of-ways. Equipment operated includes weed trimmers, chain saws, demolition saws, mowers, skid steers, small compaction rollers, patch trucks, sweepers, crack seal/fill machines, front-end loaders, backhoes, and trucks (single and tandem axle). Duties vary by district and may include asphalt overlay preparation, hauling materials, graveling roads, shoveling, raking, sweeping, and traffic control.

Schedule

This full-time, temporary position typically works Monday-Thursday, 40 hours/week, on-site.

Compensation

Hiring Range: $25.32-26.59 USD Hourly. Salary depends on education, experience, and skills.

Essential Duties

• Perform road maintenance tasks like asphalt milling, pothole filling, crack sealing, concrete repair, street sweeping, gutter and drainage maintenance, gravel road upkeep.
• Operate and drive equipment safely during construction and maintenance work.
• Conduct pre/post-trip inspections and routine cleaning/minor maintenance of trucks and equipment.
• Inspect and prepare equipment for use, including fueling, cleaning, lubricating, and tire changes. Plan and request repairs as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• At least one year of work-related experience operating equipment or vehicles with GVWR ≥ 26,001 lbs.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid Driver’s License for 2 consecutive years. Out-of-state drivers must obtain Colorado license within 30 days.
• Valid Class B or A CDL with Air Brake restriction removed and DOT medical card.
• Tanker endorsement within 30 days of hire.
• Additional certifications like Flagging, Traffic Control, Stormwater, Erosion Control may be required.
• Respond to emergencies 24/7, report within one hour of call.

Equivalent education and experience may be accepted.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in road construction or maintenance, asphalt operations, or public works.

Additional Information

• Must pass physical, drug screen, background, and MVR checks.
• Minimum age: 18 years.
• No recent major violations or DUIs/DWIs in past 3 years.
• Adherence to CDL drug testing regulations; previous work experience within last 10 years documented.
