Equipment Operator I

Employment Type: Full-time Regular
Pay Range: $52,197.00 - 78,295.00
Location: Parker, CO
Overtime Exempt: No
Elected Office / Department: DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

Generally, the hiring range is $52,197-$65,246 annually. Qualifications, education, and experience related to the position will be considered when determining the salary. Opportunities for overtime may be available and sometimes required. Overtime is paid at 1.5 times the hourly rate after 40 hours per week.

This position requires a CDL Class B at minimum; higher compensation is considered for a CDL Class A. Employees hired with a CDL Class B are typically eligible for additional compensation after obtaining a CDL Class A.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate equipment such as pickups, trucks, tractors, rollers, water tankers, mowers, loaders, excavators, snowplows, and more.
  • Perform road maintenance tasks including pothole repair, concrete repair, asphalt overlays, culvert and bridge repair, shoulder and ditch maintenance, etc.
  • Respond to emergency situations like blizzards, fires, floods, and other disasters.
  • Perform snow and ice removal, including application of anti-icing and deicing materials.
  • Assist with traffic control and signage during construction activities.
  • Conduct daily inspections of equipment and vehicles.
  • Provide good customer service and collaborate with supervisors.
  • Maintain and possibly repair or fabricate equipment.
  • Perform manual labor with hand tools and equipment.
  • Paint and sandblast structures.
  • Install and repair guardrails, fencing, culverts, and other structures.
  • Transport heavy machinery and vehicles to job sites.
  • Perform minor maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Collect debris along roads.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One year of highway maintenance or equipment operation experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of earthwork, County road system, safety precautions.
  • Skills in snow control, road maintenance, equipment use, and basic computer skills.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships, communicate effectively, read instructions, perform basic math, and work independently.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid Colorado CDL Class B required; Class A preferred.
  • DOT physical exam and drug testing compliance.
  • Flagger certification required.
Work Environment

Exposure to weather, noise, vibration, and working in roadways or construction zones. Ability to perform strenuous physical labor for long hours, lifting up to 50 pounds, and use of various tools and equipment.
