Job summary

The City of Carson is seeking part-time Seasonal Aides to support its Community Services, Recreation, and Park Maintenance programs. Work involves officiating events, field prep, and assisting with citywide programs, with hours limited to 960 per fiscal year.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic office support (organizing, scanning, filing).
  • Assist with customer surveys for park programs and events.
  • Serve as parking lot attendant for programs and events.
  • Patrol park grounds, enforce rules and municipal codes.
  • Notify supervisor of hazards or safety concerns.

The City of Carson is now accepting applications for the part-time Seasonal Aides classification. These positions are available throughout our Community Services, Recreation, & Park Maintenance Department and offers a great opportunity for individuals ages16 and older who want to gain hands‑on experience, support community programs, and develop valuable workplace skills. This entry‑level, part‑time role offers a chance to be involved in recreational activities, sports, and special events throughout the city while making a positive impact in your community.

These positions are part‑time/temporary, at‑will (FLSA: Non‑Exempt) positions that are limited to a maximum of 960 hours per fiscal year. Part‑time employees are not typically eligible for benefits; however, they may qualify for health coverage and sick leave accruals subject to applicable federal and state provisions.

Job Summary

Under general supervision to perform a variety of routine and repetitive manual or recreational duties on a seasonal basis and to perform related duties as required.

(These functions are representative and may not be present in all positions in the class. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind related duties and work assignments.)

  1. Officiate and/or score keep clinic division T‑Ball, flag football, soccer and basketball games.
  2. Prepare baseball, soccer, football fields, and basketball gyms for youth and adult sports games.
  3. Assist with setup and breakdown of park programs and citywide events.
  4. Assist with general cleaning at city facilities and grounds.
  5. Assist with basic office support such as organizing, scanning, copying, filing, etc.
  6. Assist with customer surveys for park programs and citywide events.
  7. Parking lot attendant for programs and citywide events.
  8. Patrol park grounds and facilities and inform of park rules and city municipal codes.
  9. Notify immediate supervisor of any hazards or safety concerns.

A typical way to obtain the requisite qualifications to perform the duties of this class is as follows:

Education and/or Experience

Completion of formal education sufficient to assure the ability to read and write at the level required for successful job performance. Applicant must be 16 years old to apply.

Knowledge of
  • Sports, games and groups activities; first aid and safety.
Skill and Ability to
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Learn and enforce safety regulations.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

  • Stand, stoop, reach and bend.
  • Require mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects.
  • Require to perform work, which involves frequent lifting, pushing and/or pulling of objects, which may be approximately 40 pounds and may occasionally weigh up to 60 pounds.
