Job summary

UC San Diego's Integrative Oceanography Division seeks a researcher to support deep-sea biological projects, coordinating fieldwork and data collection with cross-institution collaboration. You will perform lab experiments, data analysis, and report writing under close supervision of the PI.

Qualifications

  • Extensive research experience with deep pelagic techniques aboard seagoing research vessels.
  • Experience with general laboratory upkeep, including purchasing, safely storing chemicals, and maintaining specimen libraries.
  • Taxonomic and morphological familiarity with marine specimens across major groups.
  • Knowledge of the scientific process with a focus on marine biology and ecology.
  • Proficiency with R, PRIMER, Word and Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to document fieldwork and maintain detailed records.
  • Willingness to travel and work occasional evenings/weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Support diverse deep-sea biological research projects, coordinating with the PI and FIU.
  • Plan and execute research activities, including seagoing fieldwork and lab experiments.
  • Conduct data analysis, statistical testing, and report writing.
  • Collaborate with students, postdocs, and other PIs to contribute original ideas.
  • Contribute to training, data storage, organization, and safe/clean lab practices.
