UC San Diego's Integrative Oceanography Division seeks an Oceanography Data Science Research Specialist to lead development of computational and data-science tools for coastal observing systems. The role blends research with applied data solutions for stakeholders and industry clients in ocean observing, demanding strong programming and collaboration across teams.

The incumbent will work on HPC, data management and CI projects, contribute to grant proposals, and coordinate with national IOOS

Qualifications

  • Advanced skills in programming design, modification and implementation for ocean science applications.
  • Familiarity with data design, mapping or conversion (netCDF/THREDDS & MySQL).
  • Experience in HPC, data science infrastructure and CI tools within complex computing environments.
  • Proven ability to resolve broad computing/data/CI problems independently.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop computational, data science, and CI tools for SCCOOS data management and external clients.
  • Perform research on HPC, data and CI technologies and propose data science solutions for end-user requests.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to implement data solutions for ocean and climate services.
  • Communicate technical information effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
