Job summary

Kroger is seeking a dedicated Meat/Seafood Department Manager in Virginia Beach to lead operations, ensure safe, high-quality service, and guide associates in daily tasks. You will supervise all department functions, manage scheduling, and drive customer satisfaction through the company’s Customer 1st strategy.

Responsibilities include maintaining safety and food handling standards, training staff, executing promotions, and controlling costs while maintaining product availability and freshness

Qualifications

• Effective communication skills.
• Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction).
• Ability to handle stressful situations.
• Current food handlers permit once employed.
• Possess adequate knife handling skills and knife speed.
• High school education or equivalent preferred.
• Management experience preferred.
• Knowledge of cutting, traying, wrapping, and labeling.

Responsibilities

• Promote trust and respect among associates.

• Set performance goals for department and empower staff to meet targets.
• Develop scheduling to manage customer volume during hours of operation.
• Train and develop associates on performance and participate in appraisals.

• Cut seafood to customers' requests using proper equipment.
• Offer product samples to help customers discover items.
• Inform customers of meat/seafood specials.
• Prepare foods according to logs and cooking instructions.
• Develop and implement a department business plan.
• Understand store layout and locate products.
• Create and execute sales promotions with store management.
• Monitor ads and seasonal promotions.
• Manage department expenses and inventory accuracy.
• Schedule price changes and update shelf tags.
• Ensure food safety and proper temperature logs.
• Report safety risks or incidents.
