Job summary

ShopRite of East Orange is seeking a Seafood Clerk to provide excellent customer service while maintaining and operating the Seafood Department.

You will prepare and pack fresh and frozen seafood, follow company standards, and ensure product quality, freshness, and safety.

The role offers a stable hourly wage with a strong focus on teamwork, safety, and efficient store operations.

Qualifications

• Able to read, write, speak, analyze, interpret and understand English.
• Able to work with seafood and related products (shellfish, spices) without allergy issues.
• Able to tolerate dust and chemical agents.
• Able to perform basic math.
• Able to stand/walk for the duration of a scheduled shift.
• Able to lift regularly up to 25 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
• Able to interact with customers in a friendly and helpful way.
• Able to work cooperatively with others.
• Able to work all schedules and attend time/attendance policies.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers and provide prompt, courteous service.
• Follow procedures for receiving, dating, preparing, storing, price-marking, scaling, and restocking.
• Differentiate types of seafood and related merchandise.
• Contribute to freshness and quality of product.
• Handle damaged products according to policy.
• Check refrigeration equipment and report failures.
• Calculate product margins and retail prices when needed.
• Record invoices on receiving logs and verify accuracy.
• Maintain a clean, neat, organized and safe work environment.
• Sanitize surfaces and equipment per QA standards.
• Maintain floor cleanliness and report spills.
• Operate department equipment and report problems.
• Follow HAZCOM and safety label instructions for chemicals.
• Follow health, safety and local/state/federal regulations.
• Dress per company policy; wear uniform and name badge.
• Complete department training and adhere to ShopRite priorities.
• Maintain punctuality and attendance; overtime as needed.
