Position Summary

Plans, implements, and evaluates surgical patient care in a timely and accurate manner for perinatal patients.


Position Requirements

Formal Education / Training:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Respond to hospital within 1 hour for "on call" requirements.
  3. Previous scrub tech experience or graduation from scrub tech school.
  4. Scrub tech certification required.
  5. BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Workplace Experience:

Experience with Perinatal Health Care Team preferred.


Equipment and Skills Training:

Ability to work under pressure, independently and dependently, applying basic nursing knowledge across settings. Equipment includes surgical tools for general, AEM, genitourinary, lithotripsy, ophthalmologic/Phacoemulsification/I&A, plastic, orthopedic, ENT, obstetric/gynecologic, vascular, oral surgeries, and associated autoclaves and systems.


Physical Environment:

Surgical unit serving patients from infants to seniors.


Physical Effort:

  1. Must communicate effectively in English.
  2. Prolonged standing and working up to 12 hours.
  3. Push/pull objects up to 175 lbs.
  4. Lift and turn patients up to 250 lbs. with assistance.

Performance Standards
  1. Coordinate effectively with labor and delivery surgical team.
  2. Provide equipment and supplies timely and organized.
  3. Maintain sterile fields and follow aseptic principles.
  4. Handle medications and solutions safely per policies.
  5. Perform and communicate counts accurately.
  6. Manage OR environment and sanitation.
  7. Return equipment and prepare OR for next case.
  8. Use supplies judiciously and document charges.
  9. Maintain specific qualifications and participate in staff development.
  10. Ensure effective communication and professionalism.
  11. Return promptly from breaks and complete duties.
