Position Summary

Plans, implements, and evaluates surgical patient care for perinatal patients in a timely and accurate manner.


Position Requirements

Formal Education / Training:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Respond to hospital within 1 hour for on-call requirements.
  3. Previous scrub tech experience or graduation from scrub tech school.
  4. Scrub tech certification required.
  5. BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Workplace Experience:

Experience with Perinatal Health Care Team preferred.


Equipment and Skills Training:

Ability to work under pressure, independently and dependently, applying basic nursing knowledge across various surgical specialties. Equipment includes general, AEM, genitourinary, lithotripsy, ophthalmologic, plastic, orthopedic, ENT, obstetric/gynecologic, vascular, oral surgeries, and related sterilization and computer systems.


Physical Environment & Effort:

Work in a surgical unit serving patients from infants to seniors. Requires prolonged standing, up to 12 hours, and the ability to push/pull objects up to 175 lbs and assist with lifting patients up to 250 lbs.


Performance Standards
  1. Coordinate effectively with labor and delivery surgical team.
  2. Prepare equipment and supplies promptly and organized.
  3. Maintain aseptic technique and sterile fields.
  4. Handle medications and solutions safely.
  5. Perform and document counts accurately, initiating corrective actions as needed.
  6. Manage OR environment and sanitation policies.
  7. Return equipment and prepare rooms efficiently.
  8. Conserve costs through judicious use of supplies and accurate patient charge documentation.
  9. Maintain position-specific qualifications.
  10. Support staff development and participate in educational initiatives.
  11. Communicate effectively and complete assigned duties promptly.
  12. Maintain professional appearance reflecting cleanliness and safety standards.
