Position Summary

Plans, implements, and evaluates surgical patient care in a timely and accurate manner for perinatal patients.

Position Requirements

Formal Education / Training:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Must respond within 1 hour for on-call requirements.
3. Previous scrub tech experience or graduation from scrub tech school.
4. Scrub tech certification required.
5. BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Workplace Experience: Perinatal Health Care Team

Equipment and Skills Training:

The ability to work under pressure, independently and dependently, with basic nursing knowledge across various settings. Equipment includes surgical tools for general, AEM, genitourinary, lithotripsy, ophthalmologic, plastic, orthopedic, ENT, obstetric/gynecologic, vascular, oral surgeries, and more. Familiarity with Autoclave, Omnicell, AT&T Language Line, and network systems is required.

Physical Environment:

Surgical unit serving patients from infants to seniors.

Physical Effort:

1. Must communicate effectively in English.
2. Prolonged standing and working up to 12 hours.
3. Push/pull objects up to 175 lbs.
4. Lift and turn patients up to 250 lbs. with assistance.

Performance Standards

1. Coordinate patient care with the labor and delivery surgical team.
2. Prepare equipment and supplies efficiently.
3. Maintain aseptic technique and sterile fields, correcting breaches as needed.
4. Handle medications and solutions safely per policies.
5. Perform and document counts accurately, initiating corrective actions when necessary.
6. Control OR environment and maintain sanitation standards.
7. Return equipment and prepare the OR for next cases.
8. Use supplies judiciously and document charges accurately.
9. Maintain position-specific qualifications.
10. Assist in staff development and training.
11. Communicate effectively and complete assigned duties promptly.
12. Maintain professional appearance reflecting safety and cleanliness standards.
