Position Summary

Plans, implements, and evaluates surgical patient care in a timely and accurate manner for perinatal patients.


Position Requirements

Formal Education / Training:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Respond to hospital within 1 hour for "on call" requirements.
  3. Previous scrub tech experience or graduation from scrub tech school.
  4. Scrub tech certification required.
  5. BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Workplace Experience:

Perinatal Health Care Team experience preferred.


Equipment and Skills Training:

Ability to work under pressure, independently and dependently, with basic nursing knowledge across various settings. Equipment includes surgical tools for general, AEM, genitourinary, lithotripsy, ophthalmologic, plastic, orthopedic, ENT, obstetric/gynecologic, vascular, oral surgeries, and more. Familiarity with Amsco Autoclave, network computer systems, Omnicell Medication System, AT&T Language Line, among others.


Physical Environment:

Surgical unit serving patients from infants to seniors.


Physical Effort:

  1. Proficiency in English oral and written communication.
  2. Prolonged standing and working up to 12 hours a day.
  3. Push/pull objects up to 175 lbs.
  4. Lift and turn patients up to 250 lbs. with assistance.

Performance Standards
  1. Coordinate patient care effectively with the surgical team.
  2. Provide equipment and supplies promptly and organized.
  3. Maintain sterile fields using aseptic principles, correcting breaches immediately.
  4. Handle medications and solutions safely per policies.
  5. Perform and document counts accurately, initiating corrective actions as needed.
  6. Control OR environment, maintain traffic patterns, and adhere to sanitation policies.
  7. Return equipment and prepare OR for subsequent cases.
  8. Use supplies judiciously and document charges accurately for cost containment.
  9. Maintain position-specific qualifications.
  10. Support staff development, training, and educational initiatives.
  11. Ensure effective communication within the team.
  12. Return promptly from breaks, complete assignments, and maintain professionalism in appearance and conduct.
