Job summary

MaxCyte, Inc. is seeking a Scientist, Immunology & Non-viral engineering to design and execute non-viral gene editing workflows in primary human immune cells and cell lines.

You will apply CRISPR/Cas systems, RNPs, mRNA, and DNA templates to advance internal R&D programs and customer collaborations using MaxCyte's electroporation platform. In this role you will optimize workflows, analyze data from flow cytometry and sequencing, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality

Qualifications

  • PhD with 2-3+ years hands-on non-viral gene editing experience (CRISPR/Cas RNPs, mRNA, or DNA templates).
  • Strong immune cell biology background including isolation and activation.
  • Proficiency in flow cytometry and immune phenotyping with multi-color panels.
  • Experience with electroporation-based delivery and non-viral gene editing.
  • Experience with high-throughput screening, automation, or advanced analytics.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute non-viral gene editing workflows in primary cells and cell lines.
  • Engineer T cells, NK cells, macrophages; assess editing efficiency and viability.
  • Perform activation, proliferation, cytokine profiling, cytotoxicity, and phenotyping.
  • Analyze flow cytometry, NGS, and molecular data; summarize results for teams.
  • Optimize workflows and troubleshoot experiments with non-viral delivery tech.
  • Design, perform, and troubleshoot lab experiments per protocols and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with project management to ensure timely material delivery.
  • Provide scientific support to customer-facing teams (remote and onsite).
  • Evaluate new tech, automation, high-throughput approaches to increase efficiency.

The Scientist, Immunology & Non-viral engineering will support MaxCyte's mission by developing and executing non-viral engineering workflows for immune cells using the company's electroporation technology. This role combines immunology expertise with hands-on gene editing experience to generate high-quality data that advances internal R&D programs, customer collaborations, and platform innovation. The scientist will work cross-functionally to ensure scientific rigor, operational excellence, and alignment with MaxCyte's non-viral engineering capabilities.

Requirements
  • PhD in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or related field with 2-3+ years or Master's degree with 5+ years of with hands-on experience with non-viral gene editing, including CRISPR/Cas RNPs, mRNA, or DNA template delivery.
  • Strong background in immune cell biology, including isolation, activation.
  • Proficiency in flow cytometry, multi-color panel design, and immune phenotyping.
  • Hands-on experience with electroporation-based delivery or non-viral delivery of gene editing reagents.
  • Hands-on experience with high-throughput screening, automation, or advanced analytical tools.
  • Ability to work effectively in a structured, fast-paced, milestone-driven industry or core laboratory environment.
  • Hands-on experience with cell therapy development, including CAR-T, TCR, NK, DC or macrophage engineering.
  • Familiarity with base editing, prime editing, or emerging non-viral modalities.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with internal team members and customers.
