Job summary

Children of Promise, NYC is seeking a Science Activity Specialist to lead hands-on STEM activities for youth in our Brooklyn/ Bronx program. You will design engaging lessons and manage classroom activities in a supportive, inclusive setting.

The role requires developing age-appropriate science content, ensuring safety, and fostering curiosity, collaboration, and critical thinking among students. This is a part-time, on-site position with 10–15 hours weekly.

Qualifications

• Associate degree required.
• Minimum two years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience.
• Certifications in the respective skill-based activity preferred.
• Candidates who can lead instruction in more than one activity preferred.

Responsibilities

• Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students.
• Develop and implement age-appropriate science lessons and hands-on STEM projects.
• Teach a variety of scientific concepts, methods, and investigative techniques.
• Encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and confidence through scientific inquiry.
• Reinforce safe handling of materials, tools, and equipment used in science activities.
• Greet new arrivals to activities, introducing them to other students and explaining the rules.
• Provide support during the academic and homework hour.

CPNYC provides an array of youth development programming and services tailored to each child's individual strengths and challenges and fosters a unique uplifting environment to foster hope and resilience.Position Overview: Science Activity Specialists organize, lead, and promote interest in science activities. Instructors utilize and adapt the New York State P-12 Science Learning Standards in order to create an engaging and rewarding activity that encourages participation in CPNYC programs. Mandated reporter training is required of all staff. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of these requirements. The hourly pay rate range for this position is $25.00 to $30.00 per hour.
