Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Current Food Handler's Card or ability to obtain within 30 days.
• Three (3) years experience in food preparation in a food service setting or as a helper in Child Nutrition; supervisory experience preferred.
• Able to read, write, and follow oral and written directions in English.
• Valid Texas/New Mexico driver’s license/ID card; subject to district policy.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve a variety of main dishes, vegetables, and baked goods using recipes and standard commercial cooking equipment.
• Inspect, clean, and sanitize equipment and work area.
• Supervise Child Nutrition Helpers in proper equipment maintenance and storage.
• Taste food to ensure palatability according to school nutrition policy.
• Record amounts of food prepared and leftovers; store or dispose of food properly.
• Instruct Helpers in safety and sanitation practices.
• Supervise and organize work of Helpers assigned to a section.
• Plan and perform advance preparations for meals according to Food Production Worksheet.
• Plan cooking schedules to have food prepared on time and at the right temperature.
• Attend work site to meet essential job functions.
• Participate in professional development activities as required by the district.
• Follow established safety procedures and techniques; support district goals.
• Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned.
