Job summary

Independence School District is seeking a Cook 1 to support the daily hot and cold food preparation for the Nutrition Center. You will participate in meal service, ensure quality, and follow district policies.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, basic math, English proficiency, ability to lift 50 pounds, and the ability to work in a team under HACCP guidelines. Training is provided, with a nine-month term.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Previous food service/production experience preferred.
• Jackson County/Independence Food Handler's Permit.
• Ability to speak, read and write English.
• Ability to perform basic math.
• Basic computer skills; willing to learn new technology.
• Ability to interact positively with students and adult customers.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to lift, squat, stoop, reach, push and/or pull.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Ability to withstand varied temperatures.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Follow district dress code.
• Knowledgeable in use of equipment and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Proficiently prepares hot and cold foods according to the daily menu.
• Maintain inventory and HACCP compliance for quality and quantity.
• Daily sanitation to meet district standards.
• Ensure NSLP meal components and participation accountability.
• Record deposits and manage daily reports.
• Receive products and manage inventory for daily production.
• Maintain high food quality in appearance and taste.
• Adhere to safety protocols and report issues.
• Attends required continuing education training.
