Job summary

Eton Academy in Birmingham, Michigan, seeks a dynamic School Librarian (K-12) to lead our library program, develop and maintain a diverse collection, and deliver high-quality instruction in library and technology skills for students from kindergarten through 12th grade.

The ideal candidate will be creative, student-focused, and data-driven, able to collaborate with teachers and parents, manage library operations, and foster a welcoming learning environment both inside and outside the classroom.

Position Summary

Eton Academy, an independent school dedicated to educating different learners, is seeking a dynamic media librarian with a passion for children, the ability to develop and maintain library collections, and the ability to provide top quality instruction for our students. The media librarian will be creative in their approach to teaching, genuinely kind, share a passion for learning with students daily, and possess expertise in developing a library collection that reflects the needs of our school. The ideal candidate should be able to manage a school library, teach K‑12 library and technology skills, and cultivate a friendly, supportive environment conducive to learning inside and outside the classroom.

Qualifications
  • At least a Bachelor's Degree or higher

Major Areas of Responsibility
Library and media development, maintenance and management
  • Maintain all libraries
  • Update library books based on current need
  • Manage digital reading resource programs for students
  • Manage catalog and update teachers/students yearly
  • Catalog new materials
  • Manage library budget
  • Manage school‑wide resources
Teaching, student and teacher support
  • Teach library and literacy related skills to students K‑12 with all reporting and record keeping
  • Plan and execute school‑wide events
  • Provide resources and consult to teachers
Essential Duties

Develop, maintain and manage the school's library collections, teach, coach, counsel, supervise, and care for students, work in partnership with parents, advocate and promote the school, collaborate collegially with administrators and staff, and grow professionally. This includes school‑related meetings that may occur outside regularly scheduled hours.

  • Understand and implement all aspects of the Eton Approach and participate in all related training
  • Possess expertise in library development and maintenance
  • Teach library and media content to students K‑12
  • Create a flexible program and provide an environment favorable to individualized learning and personal growth for students
  • Establish effective rapport with students
  • Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge for a good foundation for life, in accordance with each student's ability
  • Establish good relationships and communication with parents and participate in parent‑teacher conferences
  • Establish good working relationships with other faculty and staff members
  • Continuously remain open to learning new LD strategies/programs to prepare different learners for success
  • Adhere to all policies in the Eton Handbook
