Job summary

Red Rabbit in New York is seeking an In-school Prep Cook to join a 3-5 person team preparing scratch-made meals for hundreds of students daily. The role features stable hours, day hours, and weekends/holidays off, with a strong emphasis on food safety and DOH standards.

The company is a Black-owned, MWBE-certified school food management provider committed to nutritious, culturally relevant meals. You will read production sheets, help the Head Chef prioritize daily menus, portion and plate meals,

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional culinary experience in a high-volume environment.
• Knowledge of proper food safety and sanitation practices.
• Familiarity with industrial kitchen equipment and maintenance.
• ServeSafe Certificate required; certification within 90 days preferred.
• Self-motivated, organized, and able to work in a team.
• Ability to work calmly in a fast-moving kitchen and contribute to a positive environment.
• Passion for improving nutrition in schools and serving diverse communities.
• Proficiency in reading and writing English; bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

• Read menu production sheets to understand daily food quantities.
• Prioritize production with Head Chef for daily menus.
• Portion and weigh food per recipes and guidelines.
• Cook, cool, and plate food according to recipes and safety guidelines.
• Pack and distribute meals to students on schedule, ensuring compliance portions.
• Count and track food produced to reduce waste and ensure accuracy.
• Maintain DOH standards by cleaning work stations and equipment.
• Represent Red Rabbit's values with staff and students in a professional, helpful manner.
• Acknowledge other duties as assigned.
