Job summary

Omaha Public Schools Buffett Middle in Omaha, Nebraska, is seeking a part-time Kitchen Assistant to support meal service for students and staff. The role runs 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., about 4.5 hours daily, with work scheduled August through May when students are in session.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and entails basic math, food safety, and strong attendance. Training includes kitchen stations and HACCP compliance; local travel may be required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic using money, weights, and measures.
• Previous food service experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of food safety practices and procedures.
• Excellent attendance and reliable work record.
• Ability to interact with students, staff, and parents from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation, serving, and storage of food.
• Maintain sanitation of equipment and kitchen areas.
• Assist with daily tasks and special cleaning as needed.
• Follow HACCP and OPS guidelines.
• Support staff and work across stations as training permits.
