Job summary

Hawaii State Department of Education is seeking a Cafeteria Helper in Wahiawa to support school meal service, assist with food preparation, and help with satellite feeding programs.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and understand English and follow oral/written instructions; basic arithmetic skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and works with other food service staff to prepare items on time for meal service or satellite delivery.
• Reviews daily production records and ensures ingredients, food items and equipment are available for preparation.
• Cleans and prepares fruits and vegetables; makes simple items like toast, rice, cereals; assembles salads, sandwiches and baked goods.
• Packs and portions menu items for satellite feeding.
• Sets up serving counters, serves students and staff, and restocks food and supplies as needed.
• Washes pots, pans, plates and kitchen utensils; cleans kitchen towels and uniforms.
• Maintains clean and sanitary work areas, serving counters, dining areas and washrooms; sanitizes equipment and floors.
• Labels, stores and disposes leftovers appropriately.
• Receives provisions, checks temperatures, documents discrepancies, records usage, and assists with monthly inventory.
• Oversees student helpers in the school kitchen.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings; completes USDA-mandated training hours.
