Job summary

Culpeper County School District is hiring an HVAC Technician to maintain and repair HVAC/R systems across district facilities. You will manage building automation systems and oversee apprentice helpers, ensuring safe, compliant operation and timely PMs.

The role requires independent decision-making, multi-site coordination, and strong electrical/mechanical skills. Immediate start and full-time schedule with 240 workdays per year.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of electricity and general repair work gained through HVAC/R maintenance experience.
• Mechanical Journeyman or Master License preferred.
• Certificate of completion of an approved HVAC/R training course with refrigerant handling certification.
• Virginia Driver’s License with acceptable points.
• Equivalent training or experience may be accepted.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair HVAC/R systems on a commercial level.
• Set up and maintain building automation software (Andover, Johnson Control, Automated Logic).
• Operate, troubleshoot, and repair digital, pneumatic, and electrical control systems.
• Operate cooling plants and related equipment and controls.
• Perform related electrical work as needed.
• Schedule and perform preventive maintenance on HVAC/R equipment.
• Maintain and repair commercial kitchen equipment (stoves, freezers, ice makers, refrigerators).
• Troubleshoot equipment failures including motors, compressors, fans, thermostats, leaks, towers, and EMS controls.
• Troubleshoot connections, relays, circuit boards, meters and regulators.
• Communicate openly with students, parents, staff and administration; supervise apprentices.
• Perform other assigned tasks.
