Job summary

Cedar Rapids Community School District is seeking a Food Service Assistant at West Willow Elementary School in Cedar Rapids, IA. The role follows a 9‑month schedule aligned with the school calendar and pays $15.89 per hour.

Hours run 9:30am–1:30pm with nine months of employment and benefits per the work agreement. This position involves food service operations, basic cooking assist, and POS duties for meals served.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of school food service program, nutritional standards, and sanitation.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with others to encourage and support a team atmosphere.
• Process strong communication skills and customer service.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Perform general work connected with the operation of food service, including food preparation and handling.
• Assist with cooking as necessary.
• Wash and dry pots, pans, trays, and silverware by approved methods; participate in serving quality food.
• Serve as POS for breakfast and lunch, verifying a reimbursable meal was served.
• Process daily tally counts for claim reimbursement and assist with clean up duties.
• Maintain open, positive communication with all people served by the Food & Nutrition Department.
