Job summary

ABM Industries is seeking a reliable School Custodian to perform general cleaning duties at a K-12 or college/university campus environment. This role focuses on maintaining classrooms, corridors, restrooms, and common areas to support a safe, clean learning environment.

No degree is required, and on-the-job training is provided. ABM emphasizes benefits and veteran-friendly hiring practices for candidates with diverse backgrounds.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• No high school diploma, GED or college degree required.
• Preferred: Prior customer service experience.
• Preferred: One year of prior similar work experience.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain assigned area, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, offices and stairways.
• Sweep, remove debris, clean spills and mop floors in designated areas.
• Regularly check trash receptacles and empty as needed.
• Follow procedures for use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
• Notify lead cleaner or manager of repairs or additions to building systems.
• Establish and maintain effective communication with clients, co-workers, shift coordinators, supervisors, managers.
• Collect, consolidate, and separate recycling into proper receptacles.
• Clean and dust desks, chairs, tables, furniture, fixtures, doors, sills, floors, ceilings and walls.
• Polish hard surfaces such as woodwork and stainless steel surfaces.
• Wipe and clean tabletops, chairs and equipment in food areas.
• Move cabinets, boxes and equipment to access areas for cleaning.
• Clean interior partition glass, windows and mirrors with cleaners and squeegees.
• Sweep walks, rake leaves, cut grass, remove snow, or other seasonal tasks as needed.
• Maintain the cleanliness of restrooms and comply with safety, security, and quality standards.
