Job summary

Cherry Creek School District is seeking a School Crossing Guard to direct or escort pedestrians across streets near schools, stopping traffic as needed and staying within crosswalks.

You will monitor traffic flow, communicate crossing rules to students and adults, distribute signs, and report incidents to the principal. This hourly, non-exempt role requires CDOT qualifications and a focus on student safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Wear appropriate clothing such as light colored slacks, light colored shirts, and a safety vest.
• Must meet all Colorado Department of Transportation minimum qualifications: good physical condition, ability to use STOP paddle effectively, clear instructions to students, warn of hazards, mental alertness, neat appearance, dependability, and responsibility for student safety.
• Intermediate knowledge of proper bicycle/pedestrian practices.
• Colorado DOT duty restrictions (no eating, smoking, or non-emergency mobile use while on duty).
• Criminal background check and fingerprinting required for hire.
• All certifications, licenses, and registrations must be valid and unexpired.

Responsibilities

• Direct or escort pedestrians across streets, stopping traffic as necessary within crosswalks.
• Monitor traffic flow to locate safe gaps for pedestrians to cross streets.
• Communicate traffic and crossing rules to students and adults.
• Distribute traffic control signs and markers at designated points.
• Direct traffic movement or warn of hazards using signs, flags, lanterns, and hand signals.
• Report incidents involving students to the building principal.
• Record license numbers of vehicles disregarding traffic signals and report infractions.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
