Job summary

The Indiana School for the Blind & Visually Impaired (ISBVI), a program of the State of Indiana, is seeking a dedicated School Cafeteria Worker to assist with food production, dining for residential and visiting students, and maintaining cleanliness in dining areas.

This full-time role starts with an annual salary of $26,312.00 and may be commensurate with education and experience. The position offers comprehensive benefits and opportunities to contribute to Hoosiers’ well-being.

Qualifications

• Specialized knowledge of modern methods, materials, and equipment used in large scale food preparation and sanitation.
• Ability to train, evaluate and counsel food service staff.
• Ability to plan and maintain efficient workflow and work distribution.

Responsibilities

• Supervise testing of and/or tests new recipes and make recommendations for changes.
• Train and supervise cooks in proper food preparation.
• Review, evaluate, counsel and discipline work of subordinates.
• Make menu substitutions based on availability or surplus of foods.
• Maintain control of all goods and supplies in assigned kitchen area.
• Instruct staff on proper use and maintenance of equipment.
• Requisition food and supplies as needed according to menus.
• Ensure sanitation standards in kitchen and dining areas.
• Plan daily work assignments and monthly schedules.
• Train staff to ensure portion control.
• Interview new applicants and assist with hiring decisions.
