Job summary

DATTCO, Inc. in South Windsor, CT is seeking a Safety Coordinator to oversee the School Bus Safety Department activities.

You will coordinate safety trainings, review incidents, and ensure driver compliance with DOT and district policies. The role requires hands-on training delivery, strong computer and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with Operations staff to improve safety and performance across the fleet.

Qualifications

• Must have valid Connecticut CDL Class B with Passenger and School Bus endorsements.
• DOT/FMCSA medical qualification standards and a valid DOT medical certificate.
• Pre-employment screenings including fingerprinting and background checks.
• Minimum age 21 and three consecutive years of driving with a valid license.
• Two years as a School Bus Driver and one year as a Safety Trainer.

Responsibilities

• Oversee established School Bus Safety Department duties.
• Write narrative reports, event summaries, and activity reports.
• Coordinate and supervise Safety Trainers.
• Complete applicant onboarding, driver training, road evaluations, and accident response/investigation.
• Assist drivers with safety policies and compliance.
• Review, respond to, and report accidents and safety issues.
• Disseminate safety information to staff.
• Collaborate with Operations and Safety staff to improve safety and operations.
• Report to a District Safety Manager or School Bus Safety Director.
