Job summary

Drivergent Transportation in Sterling Heights, MI is seeking a safety‑focused School Bus Driver Trainer to join our Training Department. The role delivers classroom, skills, and on‑the‑road training to new drivers and existing staff, ensuring compliance with district policies and state/federal laws.

The ideal candidate has a clean driving record, a High School diploma or GED, CDL B/A with P/S endorsements, and a passion for developing others while maintaining a strong commitment to student

Qualifications

• Clean driving record with no preventable collisions or moving violations in the past three (3) years.

Responsibilities

• Deliver classroom, skills, and on-the-road training for new school bus drivers.
• Ensure the safe and reliable transportation of students, including all duties related to operating a school bus per client district policies and state/federal laws.
• Provide refresher, remedial, and upgrade training to existing drivers as required.
• Support the driver candidate pipeline through onboarding and training activities.
• Contribute to a positive, professional, and engaging candidate/driver experience.
• Coach and mentor drivers with a focus on safe driving practices, regulatory compliance, and confidence-building.
• Take pride in developing driver skills and fostering long-term success.
• Evaluate driver performance to ensure required skill levels and certifications are achieved and maintained.
• Maintain accurate training records in accordance with state regulations, Drivergent policies, and contract requirements.
• Identify performance gaps and collaborate with local leadership to develop targeted training plans.
• Support Operations and overall safety initiatives that will help successfully develop drivers.
• Participate in meetings and training sessions as required.
• Perform other safety- and training-related duties as assigned.
