Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Meets all mandated health requirements.
• A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
• Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.
• Meets qualifications as defined in current revised state codes, pupil transportation operation & safety rules, and school board policy.
• Completion of the state pre-service school bus driver training program and participation in ongoing training as needed to maintain license and endorsements.
• Valid CDL with school bus and passenger endorsements.
• Satisfactory pre-employment and ongoing drug/alcohol test results.
• Physical ability to lift and manage preschoolers and students with disabilities when necessary.
• Ability to cope with stressful traffic, weather conditions, and passenger distractions.
• Demonstrates maturity and the ability to work with students and their families.

Responsibilities

• Checks/confirms assignments and follows directions.
• Promotes a professional image of the school district and supports community partnerships.
• Promotes effective communications and problem-solving to address questions/concerns.
• Operates the assigned vehicle according to motor vehicle laws.
• Performs pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections and reports equipment concerns.
• Maintains interior/exterior cleanliness of the vehicle.
• Fuels the vehicle and monitors fluid levels.
• Uses proper protocol when operating communication equipment.
• Practices defensive driving and complies with traffic laws.
• Reports traffic citations and accidents and injuries.
• Provides dependable service and maintains routes and schedules.
