Job summary

New Albany-Floyd County Consolidated School District is seeking a Bus Driver in Training or Substitute to safely transport students to and from school in New Albany, Indiana. The role pays $18.00 hourly in training or $26.00 hourly for substitute work, with reports to the Director of Transportation.

The job requires a High School diploma or GED and a CDL Class B Passenger endorsement (or ability to obtain), plus at least 3 years with a valid license and completion of Indiana DOT Yellow Card

Qualifications

• Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or GED and minimum of one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions; handle problems with several variables.
• Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Maintain CDL Class B or above Passenger endorsement and S endorsement or ability to obtain licensure.
• Other Skills and Abilities: Pass agility skills test.
• Age and driving history: Must be at least 21 years old and have held a driver's license for at least 3 years.

Responsibilities

• Transports students to/from school; drives routes; follows traffic and safety rules.
• Maintains order during transport; ensures students are seated safely.
• Performs daily safety and security checks; reports unsafe conditions.
• Verifies vehicle safety before transport; cleans bus as needed.
• Assists with emergency plan in case of accident.
• Documents student behavioral incidents during transport.
• Attends required meetings; maintains regular attendance.
