Job summary

Richland County School District One in Columbia, South Carolina is seeking a Bus Aide to assist bus drivers, help students board and depart safely, enforce seatbelt rules, and ensure wheelchairs are locked in place.

Under supervision, the Bus Aide may drive the bus as needed, assist with route and emergency preparation, maintain student discipline, and communicate with the Transportation Supervisor, district staff, students, and parents.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma and a good driving record; valid state driver's license required.
• Must be physically able to operate a school bus and assist students.

Responsibilities

• Assists bus drivers by helping students board/depart bus safely and helps with route assistance and emergency preparation.
• Enforces all bus rules and regulations, including seatbelts, safety, seat assignments, student behavior and noise; checks wheelchairs are locked in place.
• Helps students cross the street as needed.
• Drives bus as requested or as necessary.
• May attend meetings of students with IEPs.
• Maintains medical records of students.
• Assists in maintaining the cleanliness of the bus.
• Interacts and communicates with supervisor, staff, students, parents, etc.
