Job summary

Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center is seeking a School Based Speech Language Pathologist (Teacher of Students with Speech & Language Disabilities) for the Rosewood/Cheektowaga area. You will evaluate and treat students with communication disorders within an educational setting.

The role requires NYS SLP licensure (or CFY eligibility) and TSSLD certification; supervision of CFYs may be involved. Full-time position with competitive compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an accredited speech language pathology program.
• New York State licensed Speech-Language Pathologist or CFY eligible.
• ASHA CCC-SLP or CFY eligible; TSSLD Initial or Profession certificate or TSHH Permanent certificate.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate, diagnose and recommend therapeutic intervention for communication disorders in educational settings.
• Implement Speech-Language Pathology instruction to teach habilitation and rehabilitation.
• Provide services in collaboration with teachers, OTs, PTs, audiologists and other staff.
• Submit written evaluations, treatment and educational reports; maintain documentation.
• Make referrals to affect positive therapeutic results and progress.
• Communicate regularly with families and students; maintain professional discretion.
• Supervise CFYs and TSSLDs in accordance with licensure and agency policies.

Job Summary:

The School Based Speech Language Pathologist – Teacher of Students with Speech & Language Disabilities/Teacher of Speech & Hearing Handicapped is responsible for the evaluation, diagnosis, and recommendation for therapeutic intervention for individuals with communication disorders in an educational setting. In addition, responsibilities include the implementation of appropriate Speech-Language Pathology instruction designed to teach, habilitate or rehabilitate the communicatively impaired student.

Essential Functions:

• Imparting knowledge via the implementation of appropriate Speech-Language Pathology instruction
• Display competence in the area of speech-language impairment (either licensed or under the careful direction and supervision of a licensed SLP). Determines type and severity of speech-language impairment, under careful supervision if unlicensed SLP. Determines prognosis and appropriate instruction and treatment for speech-language impairments.
• Evaluation, diagnosis, and recommendation for therapeutic intervention for individuals with communication disorders. Working collaboratively with other professionals such as the classroom teacher, other SLPs, OTs, PTs, Audiologists, supervisors and other as appropriate.
• Submits written reports of the evaluations, treatment and educational plans, progress reports, and discharge reports as appropriate. Maintain paperwork within legal and agency guidelines. Ensures paperwork is completed in a timely and organized fashion.
• Makes appropriate referrals as needed in order to affect positive therapeutic results.
• Communicates regularly with family/student.
• Exhibit professional judgment, maturity, and upgrades professional knowledge through involvement in continuing education programs. Participate in the delivery of and/or attend in-service programs. Participate in formal staff training. Maintain SLP licensure and TSSLD certification.
• Licensed Speech Pathologists are required to supervise CFYs and TSSLDs appropriately, ensuring legal guidelines and agency policies are precisely followed.
• Any other duty as requested by your supervisor.

Education:

Minimum Degree Required: Master’s degree from University/College of accredited speech language pathology program.

Required License/ Registration/ Certification:

• Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (“TSSLD”) Initial or Profession certificate or “TSHH” Permanent certificate
