Job summary

The Hawaii State Department of Education is seeking a School Baker to join the food services team in Honolulu. You will bake a variety of breads and pastries for daily meal service, coordinating closely with staff to meet school schedules and satellite deliveries.

The role requires at least a high school diploma and 1 year of quantity-baking experience; six months in a kitchen setting as an apprentice is accepted. You will train helpers and ensure sanitation and safety standards are followed.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• Six (6) months of work experience as an apprentice or helper in a kitchen with basic baking skills.
• One (1) year of work experience as a baker in a restaurant, hotel, hospital, school, or institution with hands-on baking of large quantities.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and works with other staff to bake goods to meet meal service times and satellite deliveries.
• Reviews production records, prepares ingredients and equipment, and adjusts recipes for production needs.
• Weighs and mixes ingredients, calculates bread equivalents, and bakes a variety of goods.
• Sets up counters, serves and replenishes items for meals; portions for satellite meals.
• Maintains clean, sanitary work areas and proper storage; trains and supervises helpers.
