Reports to: Building Principal
The work year for School Assistants shall be the same as the number of student days as determined by the district. On days with early dismissal, School Assistants shall work those hours. The workday is 5.25 hours. The School Assistant will serve the instructional needs of regular education students and perform daily duties at their assigned school. This position does not offer benefits.
High school diploma or GED preferred, especially with experience working with school-aged children. Good communication skills, visual acuity, and hearing ability are required. Must have the temperament to work with students and adults exhibiting various emotions and the physical ability to perform essential duties.
The employee performs physically minimally demanding tasks involving sitting, walking, operating computers, handling objects, stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting, reaching, lifting, and carrying objects of 10-15 pounds. Must have good hearing, visual perception, and communication skills. Work is primarily in a climate-controlled environment, with outdoor supervision and transportation duties. Basic math skills, ability to establish effective relationships, follow instructions, exercise judgment, read and interpret documents, and communicate effectively are required.
