Job summary

Healthy Kids Programs is hiring a School-Age Childcare Assistant for our Before and After School Programs at Marian E. McKeown Elementary School in Newton, NJ for the 2026-2027 school year. This part-time, non-exempt role follows the school calendar with morning and/or afternoon shifts.

You will lead activities, ensure a safe environment, support homework, and model positive behavior while engaging with energetic children. Employer-paid childcare and other benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• Candidates must successfully pass all required state background checks.
• Ability to meet physical demands, including bending, stretching, lifting up to 50 pounds, and actively engaging with energetic children.
• Positive, professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills; reliable and punctual.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate hands-on activities per Healthy Kids Curriculum including fitness, STEAM, academic, art, and homework.
• Provide a safe, healthy, and fun environment and model positive behavior for children.
• Observe state guidelines, Healthy Kids Extended Day Program policies, and host school policies.
• Certain positions may also perform management functions such as accurate attendance records, registration, and staffing.

SCHEDULE

Follows the school calendar

Morning Program: 7:00 - 8:15 am

Afternoon Program: 3:00 - 6:00 pm

Position Responsibilities

The Before and After School Program team is responsible for:

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High School Diploma and/or 1 year of childcare experience preferred but not required

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Candidates must successfully pass all required state background checks.
• Requires the ability to meet physical demands, including bending, stretching, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds, and actively engaging with energetic children.
• The ideal candidate demonstrates a positive, professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills when working with children, families, and colleagues, along with a consistent record of reliability and punctuality.
