Job summary

The Channel Islands YMCA in Santa Ynez, CA is seeking an Entry Level School Age Childcare Assistant for a part-time position. You will support planning, supervising, and implementing childcare programs in line with California licensing guidelines and YMCA standards.

You will provide a safe, engaging environment for children, support teachers with activities, and help maintain HEPA-compliant, inclusive programming.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Six units in child development or related field preferred.
• Complete required certifications within 60 days of hire.
• Ability to obtain Criminal Record Clearance and health screening.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, supervising, and implementing childcare programs per California licensing guidance.
• Provide quality care and supervision to children in a safe, engaging environment.
• Support lesson activities and maintain HEPA standards in programming.
• Help with setup and cleanup of the program area as needed.
• Deliver exceptional customer service and foster connections with children and families.

What does a School Age Childcare Assistant do?

• Assist in planning, supervising, and implementing childcare programs in accordance with guidelines from State of California Community Care Licensing
• Provides quality care and supervision to children (visual, proactive, interactive)
• Provide a safe environment for all children to thrive
• Guide behaviors using positive methods, keeping in mind each child’s individual needs
• Assist in supervising activities and lesson plans
• Ensure the program is delivering Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) standards
• Set up and clean-up of the program area including vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, trash removal, etc
• Provides exceptional customer service and fosters connections with children and families
• Participating and satisfactory completion of in-service trainings
• Create an environment that is welcoming, nurturing, and inclusive for all children and families
