Job summary

Channel Islands YMCA seeks an entry level Childwatch Leader to support planning, supervision, and delivery of childwatch activities at the Stuart C Gildred Family YMCA in Santa Ynez, CA. This part‑time role emphasizes safety, engagement, and helping families feel welcome.

You will supervise activities, track attendance, and ensure HEPA standards while providing friendly, responsive service to children and families. Must be 16+, with certifications completed within 60 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Ability to obtain a criminal record clearance, if over 18 years old.
• High School diploma or equivalent; valid work permit required if a minor.
• Previous work experience in related role preferred.
• Complete required certifications within 60 days of hire.
• Complete all required Branch and Position specific trainings as required within two weeks of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, supervising, and implementing Childwatch programs in accordance with standard operating procedures.
• Provide quality care and supervision to children (visual, proactive, interactive).
• Provide a safe environment for all children to thrive.
• Track attendance and ensure a valid membership is on file.
• Guide behaviors using positive methods, keeping in mind each child’s individual needs.
• Assist in supervising activities and lesson plans.
• Ensure the program is delivering HEPA standards.
• Set up and clean-up of the program area including vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, trash removal, etc.
• Provide exceptional customer service and foster connections with children and families.

What does a Childwatch Leader do?
