Job summary

Santa Barbara Family YMCA is seeking a Preschool Teacher to join our childcare team in Santa Barbara, CA. You will plan, supervise, and implement age-appropriate activities in alignment with California Community Care Licensing guidelines.

The role requires 18+ years old, a high school diploma or equivalent, and 12 units in Child Development. You will work with a team to provide a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for children and families.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 12 units in Child Development or a related field.
• 6 months of experience in a childcare setting.
• Complete required certifications within 60 days of hire.
• Complete Branch and Position specific trainings within two weeks of hire.
• Ability to obtain Criminal Record Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, supervising, and implementing childcare programs per State of California licensing guidelines.
• Supervise up to 12 children independently under licensing rules.
• Supervise an Assistant or Associate Teacher for up to 15–18 children under licensing rules.
• Provide quality care and supervision to children (visual, proactive, interactive).
• Create a safe environment for all children to thrive.
• Guide behaviors using positive methods, considering each child’s needs.
• Carry out activities and lesson plans.
• Ensure HEPA standards are delivered in the program.

What does a Preschool Teacher do?

• Assist in planning, supervising, and implementing childcare programs in accordance with guidelines from State of California Community Care Licensing
• Supervises up to 12 children independently under the guidelines from State of California Community Care Licensing
• Supervises an Assistant or Associate Teacher with up to 15 or 18 children under the guidelines from the State of California Community Care Licensing
• Provides quality care and supervision to children (visual, proactive, interactive)
• Provide a safe environment for all children to thrive
• Guide behaviors using positive methods, keeping in mind each child’s individual needs
• Carry out activities and lesson plans
• Ensure the program is delivering Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) standards
• Set up and clean-up of the program area including vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, trash removal, etc
• Provides exceptional customer service and fosters connections with children and families
• Participating and satisfactory completion of in-service trainings
• Create an environment that is welcoming, nurturing, and inclusive for all children and families
• Able to work collaboratively and respectfully as part of a staff team
• Ensure building, grounds, and equipment are in working order. Report any concerns
• Maintain certifications and take advantage of professional growth opportunities
• Support the annual campaign process including education of members
• Understand your role as a mandated reporter of elder and child abuse. Report and respond to situations in accordance with policies and procedures
