Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health in Newark, NJ is seeking a Scheduler to coordinate patient appointments and support efficient operations, contributing to a positive patient experience. You will work with patients, physicians, and staff to schedule, update records and convey scheduling details.

The role requires a High School diploma or equivalent, 6 months to 1 year of relevant experience, familiarity with EPIC, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• Healthcare clerical experience and medical terminology preferred.
• Knowledgeable with Epic, scheduling, and prior authorizations preferred.
• Bilingual is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Schedule appointments based on physician orders and patient needs.
• Manage scheduling work queues and In Basket messages within EPIC.
• Verify insurance and pre-authorizations have been obtained.
• Communicate appointment details with patients and address scheduling inquiries.
• Maintain accurate patient information while delivering excellent customer service (80–100 calls per day).

The above reflects the anticipated hourly wage range for this position if hired to work in New Jersey. The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

The Scheduler is responsible for coordinating and managing patient appointments to support efficient operations and a positive patient experience. You will work closely with patients, physicians, and staff to schedule appointments, maintain accurate patient information, communicate scheduling details, and help ensure patients receive timely and coordinated care.

As Scheduler, a Typical Day Might Include The Following

• Scheduling appointments based on physician orders and patient needs
• Managing scheduling work queues and In Backet messages within EPIC
• Verifying insurance and pre-authorizations have been obtained
• Communicating appointment details with patients and addressing scheduling inquiries
• Maintaining accurate patient information while delivering exceptional customer service to support a positive patient experience throughout the scheduling process, handling 80-100 calls per day.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have a High School diploma or equivalent. Six (6) months to one (1) year of relevant experience and/or training required. Preferably, with clerical experience in health care and medical terminology. Knowledgeable with Epic, scheduling and prior authorizations preferred. Bilingual is a plus.
