Job summary

Planet Group is seeking a SCADA Technician to join a Fortune 500 client on a 12-month, onsite assignment in Jackson, MI. The role requires an associate degree or relevant experience and a solid grounding in SCADA systems.

You will validate telemetering configurations, test DNP3/Modbus, document results, and coordinate with IT and engineering teams to ensure safe, reliable operations under NERC/CIP rules. This contract position offers a structured schedule of 40 hours per week and an hourly pay

Qualifications

A two-year associate degree or applicable trade/military training.
Familiar with SCADA protocols and telemetry systems.
Experience with RTU/IED platforms such as SEL, Cooper/Eaton, GE, NovaTech, or ABB.
Knowledge of NERC compliance requirements.
Experience with supporting and maintaining HMI displays and other real-time displays.
Ability to identify patterns and use problem-solving to create solutions for chronic issues.
Ability to identify process gaps and suggest enhancements or decommissioning.
Ability to work with minimal supervision and manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities.
Knowledge and/or experience in utility operations.

Responsibilities

Perform SCADA head/end point-to-point checkout, validating digital status, analog values, alarms, controls, transducer scaling, and sequence-of-events accuracy.
Verify point mapping, naming conventions, database entries, and telemetry configurations within the SCADA master system.
Validate RTU and IED logic, communication mappings, and data files against engineering docs and standards.
Troubleshoot data mapping errors, scaling discrepancies, communication failures, stale data, and incorrect alarms.
Conduct SCADA communication testing for DNP3, Modbus and other protocols over serial or IP networks.
Document test results, discrepancies, resolutions, and final checkout/commissioning reports for operational acceptance.
Coordinate with IT, SCADA Eng., field resources and I&C teams during device onboarding and commissioning.
Ensure compliance with safety, NERC/CIP, IT policies, and information security rules.
Act as escalation point for telemetry availability and comms issues.
